Abby update - January 23

Just a quick note tonight--with the discipline of (nearly) daily trips to St. David's, I've got to get more discipline in my bedtimes...!

Gordon took Abby to therapy at St. David's today, while Frank and I did work and homeschool. He said they had another productive day, including a biofeedback session. Biofeedback at St. David's utilizes an electromyogram--a computer assessment of muscle-firing activity to assess which messages are getting from the brain to the muscles. This resource (which is not available at many hospitals) will let the therapists see which muscles or muscle areas Abby is not using and design therapy to target those areas.

On the cognitive side, Abby is doing lots of reading, both for her speech therapist and her home-bound schoolteacher (as well as the things we were already reading for fun). It's a good thing she likes to read!

Otherwise, we're just like everyone else in Texas right now--trying to stay warm and dry! May you as well...
