Abby update - January 11

Everyone please note the new and improved blog update time! Abby is downstairs helping Gordon get supper ready, so I'm going to do my post and then go to bed when everyone else does!

It was another day of formal and home-grown therapy again today. We had a visit from the speech therapist and school teacher, plus we squeezed in a walk, some weight-lifting, some swimming, and a trip to the school for Abby to take photos with her class. We really like the approach the teacher from Wimberley ISD is taking--starting with the basics to assess what's easy for Abby and then rebuilding where that is needed.

And we finally made a decision about therapy. We've decided to try the St. David's program at least for a few weeks. We spoke to them about tailoring the program for Abby's age, and they provided us with some reassurances about that capability. We are looking at the St. David's experience as yet another phase--first, inpatient rehab at Warm Springs; second, home therapy to help us make the adjustment to returning home; third, intensive day program at St. David's to try to meet some physical and cognitive goals; with our next goal as getting back to school with supplementary therapy as we need it. I think another deciding factor was that we've had a little time now to rest as a family, so we feel up to the challenge of committing to a schedule that will require the discipline of a day program (we're planning on four days/week). All this is supposed to begin on Monday (assuming all the insurance hoops are overcome.) Thanks to all of you who prayed with us on this--we feel good about the decision, and Abby's looking forward to getting back to a therapy gym.

Well, I think that dinner is ready, so I'm signing off at the unheard-of hour of 6:20!

Love to all,
-the LInams
