Linam Family Update - September 2

Well, I guess we've settled into the reality of work and school and chores around here again. Was it only 10 days ago that we were hiking and eating green chile and hunting down lizards...?

(Can you guess which one is the homeschool student?)
Abby and Frank got off to a good start in school this week. Abby was very happy to see her friends, jumped right into 2 hours of volleyball workouts per day, and is doing pretty well in her classwork; however, she was already begging to play a little hooky by the end of the week! As far as the homeschool student, Frank, goes, I think his teacher's going to have to challenge him a bit more. With his great work ethic, he was finished with his assignments by noon on most days!

This weekend the kids have been enjoying a little time off--relaxing with some of their good friends. Abby and Taylor have enjoyed movies and swimming in the river, while Frank and Levi took in a couple of football games (Texas State University won; Wimberley High School did not). On the other hand, Gordon and I have been hard at work for our Labor Day weekend. While we were on vacation, the Oldmixons swept in again and "spruced up" the kitchen and guest room. This weekend we've been finishing up some final touches on the paint and new floors and moving furniture back in. The refinished guest room will be ready for visitors any time you can make it!

I'll just close with another word of thankfulness. Abby had an appointment with her rehab doctor this week. Once again, Dr. Leonard's words offered us a glimpse of just what a miracle Abby's recovery is. She's very pleased with Abby's progress--indicating that Abby had much farther to go than some patients, but that she sees so much life in her eyes now. She's helping us all look toward the future as well--telling Abby that some things may always be harder, but giving her encouragement that much of what she hopes for can be within her reach. Then she said to come back and see her at the end of the school year. I think she's slowly "cutting the cord"...That makes Abby (who's weary of doctors and hospitals) happy, but leaves me bittersweet. So many doctors, nurses, and therapists walked us through some very difficult miles; it's an irony that when they do their job best, then we leave them behind. All I can say is we will never forget them and never fail to be thankful for them. God bless them all.

And God bless those of you who have walked with us in spirit as well...may He walk with you this week...
Love,
the Linams

Good thing I did not bring the furniture this past weekend. You do remember the furniture?
